Gold Rush, 2023
Installation

This is a serious work in my “XIAOBEITAOJING-G OLD RUSH” street diary.
In Guangzhou, the XIAO BEI African community stands as a representative of Sino-African trade. The community has seen an increasing influx of Black residents due to factors such as immigration, education, and marriage. Particularly post-pandemic, this community is a intersection of cultural integration and conflicts. A small number of black people will shape the nationhood of their home countries through the construction of cultural landscapes, and also show flexible citizenship. The project aims to delve into issues such as the identity crisis among community residents, real-life survival challenges, and the current status of Sino-African
commodity trade, the diversification, contextualisation and even fragmentation of
community residents‘ concepts of ”ethnicity“, ”nation“, ”boundary“, ”identity“ and even ”culture“.
Utilizing African indigenous fabrics and traditional beadwork available in the XIAO BEI African community in Guangzhou, I have crafted a series of African fruit textile sculptures. Simultaneously, complemented by investigative documentary footage from multiple visits to the community, the exhibition unfolds a Chinese artist perspective on an African memorial garden. This intricate portrayal of the community serves as a profound contemplation on cultural amalgamation, identity, and Sino-African trade.
Installation, 2023.
I used a hidden camera in the Sanyuanli Building from the perspective of the intruder. I took a picture of the on-ground record here, and finally I tried to present it by peeping through the telescope.
