Me and my groundparents ,2004,
SHENZHEN

As time goes from 1960 to 2020, there is a history revolution, transformation, and a big era is coming. My ancestors were simultaneously being entrapped and driven away from their place of work and residence. My family continuously migrated and relocated along the river, just like the flow of this era.

Me, someone raised in a city shaped by constant movement, I grapple with the question: how does one find a sense of home when the concept of home itself is constantly shifting? How to create my space between personal memory and collective history under the torrent of time.

In this installation, I use a red thread—symbolizing bloodlines and continuity—to connect the blurred faces of my family to an image of my own identity. This thread ties together moments in time, from the faded past to the present. The fragmented nature of these photographs can be both the disintegration of fixed identities and the ongoing search for belonging.

我咽下一枚铁做的月亮,
I swallowed a moon made of iron,
他们把它叫做螺丝。
They call it a screw.
